Packaging Waste & Our Mission
The climate crisis begs us to rethink our consumption and change our behavior to balance convenience and sustainability. No longer can the lightweight durability and inexpensive, decay resistant moldability benefits of plastic outweigh the monumental environmental costs of its production and waste management.
The Environmental Protection Agency estimates that plastic containers and other packaging waste accounts for a major portion of municipal solid waste, around 30 percent of total U.S. waste annually, and of the 34.5 million tons of plastic waste generated each year, only 9 percent is recycled. Most of America’s recyclable waste is shipped to countries that lack the infrastructure for proper processing resulting in more landfill pollution in ecosystems across the globe.
